Latter-day Saint Faith Crisis

About the Gentle Guide

The Gentle Guide is a compassionate project. It shares comfort and advice for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("Mormons") who are currently experiencing a faith crisis or faith transition or are counseling someone who is.

This site is not affiliated with or sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Gentle Guide is so called because it doesn't take an opinionated approach to resolving faith crisis. Finding a testimony and remaining actively involved with the Church is part of some journeys; resigning from the Church and cutting all ties is part of others. Many journeys end up somewhere in between. No two journeys are the same, but all are legitimate and deserve the same respect. We bear no hostility toward the Church or its leaders. We likewise bear no hostility toward those who leave the Church or are critical of it.

This site is intended to be safe and non-threatening for everyone, members and non-members alike. It has been reviewed and approved by people in several different situations: believing members, non-literal members, less-active members, and ex-members. We have not dedicated any pages to criticism of the Church, nor have we dedicated any pages to its defense. This site is about personal experiences, not theologies. Our purpose is always as follows:

  1. To empathize with each other and show respect for each other's concerns.
  2. To relieve the sense of loneliness that so often accompanies faith crisis.
  3. To give specific and practical advice in an attitude of compassion and love.

Our purpose is not to influence anyone toward a particular course of action. Our purpose is not to preach. We believe in agency, which to us means making our own decisions and respecting the decisions of others.

We hope our efforts are helpful to you. We hope this site will help you find ideas and resources to take you where you want to go. Above all, we hope you will find peace and joy on your path.
